Microsoft Windows Phone UI Suggested Concept

I have been using windows mobile phone since 2010, pretty much since they launched what was called windows 7 at the time. I was excited about it because it had a completely different look than any other O.S out there (namely Android and iOS).

But it was lacking so many features, to name a few:  you couldn’t resize the tiles, no background image capability, the notification bar was limited and wasn’t there early on, among many  other things. ( we’re not discussing the app  market, as I am hoping it will eventually grow).

The good thing however, is that they kept on pushing new builds , and of course with a new build you get new features, so my phone was bumped to windows 7.8 and then 8.1 and of course by joining the  insider program , you get to volunteer your device as a guinea pig, at your own  risk. That too, was ok with me, as long as I was getting new features.

Recently I bought my HP Elite x3 running on windows 10. It is a great device, but other than windows hello and perhaps the biometric recognition, there wasn’t much change to visually identify it from the previous versions.  As a Microsoft windows phone user, I feel like it’s no different than an iOS or an Android, the software remains the same, and there would be minor tweaks to the Hardware.

Now I have seen several  concepts out there, and I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be nice if on top of the existing concepts out there to just add one more,  namely the 3D concept. it would look something like this: Concept 2.pngSecond Concept.png

It is self explanatory. Whenever you have a message for instance, you will still see the  number of messages waiting to be read, but you will also have this elevated box (3D rendering above), which will visually stimulate you to check the message, or at least point you in that direction. Once opened, it will return to its flat format (2D). it would feel like popping a bubble wrap.

Now this may not apply to all tiles as some of them are static, yet still this minor UI change does go a long way in making Windows Phone an even more unique experience to its users.

Feel free to comment and give your thoughts on this concept.

How Microsoft made enemies in less than two hours at the windows 10 Event?

1- close to literally or holographically Microsoft pissed on Google glass with its #HoloLens, hence sending them back to their textbooks to relearn the #alphabet.

2- Microsoft introduced #SurfaceBook to outperform the top performing Mac Book, and it’s still at the surface as the name has it. What if they go deeper?

3- after dropping Nokia, Lumia evolved into into half phone half desktop, under the pretext of continuum or what I would like to call metamorphosis. It’s like watching terminator all over again.

4- needles to say, Microsoft has finally invited itself to its own party hence becoming the first party hardware manufacturer, instead of relying on third party ones.

From what I’m seeing it appears that Microsft  has has told almost everyone, “Tag, you’re it” or perhaps “Catch me if you can”.

Guest Blog: How Advanced Health Management Tools act as a Boon for Patients?

by Kelly Everson

Advanced health management tools refer to an electronic system that specializes in keeping medical health records. Its development was ignited by loss of focus when handling large volumes of papers, charts and files. With the help of this system, doctors are able to coordinate large support staff, manage complex business matters, and compile medical and billing information for patients. In addition, the system helps in dealing with regulatory and compliance issues.

Advanced health management tools come with the following benefits for patients:

1 Improved Quality of Medical Care

Advanced health management tools have far-reaching capabilities that are helpful in improving the quality of medical care for patients. Every person can get access to complete knowledge based health information including doctors’ location and experience. This means that patients are now in a better position to find the right medical professionals who can be helpful in addressing their medical problems at ease. The tools also help health professionals to discuss patients’ issues to come up with the best treatment approaches.

2 Decreased Medical Cost

With the help of technology advancement, doctors are capable of gathering every health data about a patient, and thus the ease of access to information promotes cost-effective testing and treatment services. With these tools, patients can receive appointments with medical professionals without having to make trips to physical locations and incurring commuting expenses. Patient’s recommendations and prescription can also be made virtually.

3 Easier Personal Data Access

In reference to Gary Hamilton, president and the founder of InteliChart, advanced health management tools will enable patients to easily access their personal data from an aggregated portal. This will give them an opportunity to utilize a single portal in connecting with all their health care providers and hospitals. Hamilton states that an aggregated repository is very crucial for organizations because it facilitates the next proceedings like care coordination and population health management. Patients will also interact with the aggregated portal to see one medication list and one appointment list from their providers using various vendors.

4 Easier Access to Medical Care

Patients will be in a position to request refills and schedule for appointments using the aggregated list. In addition, patients are more likely to remain engaged when they get a chance to interact with crucial information from doctors using a single portal instead of a separate portal for every health care provider and a different hospital. After initiating communication or requests through the portal, patients will be automatically routed to the appropriate provider, hospital, practice. They will be able to renew medication, undergo tests and schedule appointments with the click of a button. The next generation portals will have the ability to streamline communication by automatically routing requests to the most suitable staff.

5 Easier Sign-up Methodology

There are few practices that have the resources required in creating a patient’s portal account for every patient. This has therefore made a rise in latest technology portals that allow patients to create account remotely from the comfort of their home or through mobile devices. This provides initial access to plan appointments and complete forms in any location. On receiving an authentication token from his/her practice, a patient will then have complete access to their profiles.

6 User-friendly Technology

According to Hamilton, patients can only adopt a technology that fits with their lifestyles. For instance, with the help of a mobile application, patients will be in a better position to access health information and maintain communication with their healthcare providers. This will ensure that the doctors are up-to-date with patient health information, and thus will give recommendations when necessary.

7 Warning Alerts

Advanced health management tools deliver unprecedented guidance of a patient’s health that is analyzed according to the most up-to-date, evidence based practices to enable improvement across the entire population. If you are in good health, you can receive continuous monitoring as well as alerts that promote current wellness to reduce your chances of developing chronic disease. You will be alerted on when to attend a routine screening and tests for preventive measures and healthy living. The tools can also promote adherence to guard against negative interactions with other prescribed medications.  If you have a chronic condition, such as heart disease, these tools will help you to find out whether you are using the most effective medication currently in use.

Conclusion

Advanced health management tools is a boon to patients as it will help the health care industry shift from volume to value by embracing technology that promote clinical excellence. This will go a long way in improving patient satisfaction while reducing the medical cost. By monitoring patients’ personal health status over time, these tools will support high-value medical assistance. They will also give employers a chance to offer personalized health and wellness interventions within the shortest time possible. By getting incorporated in mobile devices, advanced health management tools will enable patients to have access to relevant information in their fingertips.

Superheroes, Supervillains and TVs

If you are like me, you would probably be wondering which TV is better: The plasma TV or the LCD / LED TV? Of course, there is the technical way of finding out which one fits your needs, and there is the smart way of knowing which one is the right one for you.

Batman, Cat-woman and Darth Vader along with some other superheroes and super-villains, would choose the Plasma TV hands down. If you look at what’s common between all of them, you will notice their dark uniform as well as their habitat. What do dark clothes have to do with it? Absolutely nothing, but it was just an observation…

However their habitat does. So Batman and Cat-woman live in some sort of a cave and are mainly night heroes, whereas Darth Vader lives in outer space with limited light or sun exposure. So all three of them having no light, meaning they will have no light reflection on their screen and would then choose plasma to get the real colors and not the artificially bright ones.

The Hulk

Dr. Bruce Banner however should definitely get and LCD or an LED. This is because if he was watching a movie on a plasma TV during the day, and his Plasma happens to be located in a room with too much light exposure, he might risk losing his temper due to the constant light reflection on the glass screen of his plasma. This will prevent him from enjoying his favorite TV series “the incredible Hulk”, hence transforming into the HULK, which we would all rather not deal with.

Superman is a different case, but I can see him go for a plasma. Even though he has exceptional eye vision an LED/ LCD or plasma wouldn’t make much of a difference to him, but the refresh rate would bother him if it wasn’t fast enough. So the Plasma having a 600HZ refresh rate would pacify his vision much faster than a 120 HZ or 210HZ.

See which hero or villain you can identify with and make your selection accordingly.

Which is the better one?

We see people walking down the street, each one to his/her phone, minding their own business. They all seem happy with what their O.S has provided them with. No one seems to care, no one feels the urge to show off or compete, until we start approaching a national holiday.

We start seeing commercials on TVs, ads on websites, and huge billboards by the giants displaying the new and upcoming feature of their product.

Those who have that particular phone now have something to show off about for the next three months or so, since that is usually the longest period before the competitors introduce the same or a very similar feature.

Some of the new features you hear about sometimes have nothing to do with the operating system, but more like a hardware change. For instance, the new phone will be slimmer and lighter, it used to be 15 mm in width, but now it’s only 14.5 mm and down from 210g to 202g. As if, my back won’t hurt me as much now that it’s lighter; but my pocket will.

I must admit some features are really interesting, but since we’re the ones paying the full price to buy a new phone or maybe renew a contract with a carrier and be stuck with their crappy customer service just because we want this phone, I think we should have a say in what we would like to see.

No one ever consulted with me for an opinion on what I am paying for. They say the people have spoken and we have listened. Well not in those exact words but in reality I never said a thing and I am part of the people.

What do we really want from our Phones in terms of hardware and software?

To begin with, if you are going to manufacture phones like there’s no tomorrow and you’re going to have updates and upgrades that only work with the newer version; I suggest you think about lowering your prices.

-A single person “might” consider buying a new phone once a year as his/her new year’s gift at the full price which ranges between 400 and 700 usd. If this is your target, then incorporate things that would attract this chunk of the market.

-A couple would find it overpriced to spend the 800 to 1400 usd every year to get the latest and “bestest” as advertised phone out there .

-An entire family would consider this as a disastrous day, a new phone? What do you mean a new phone? We just bought new ones? Has it been a year already? But mine still works fine. Ok, ok I will pass by the bank and get another loan, or sell my blood.

While those giants are competing, they leave their dirty work to the smaller yet huge companies, we call them “the carriers”, I am sure you have heard of them. These days you can’t have a smartphone unless you have a data plan. That’s right, no data means no deal.

It seems the phone manufacturer, the OS developer and carriers have one thing in common and that is the consumer. While they brag every year how they met the criteria or their sales or what their revenues were on the third quarter, we “the consumers” anxiously wait for new updates that wouldn’t have been noticed in the first place and might not even be used by many, simply to say “we have the latest and meanest product”.

Apple

They say “behind every successful man, there is a woman.” I say behind every woman there is “Apple”. Why might one wonder? What does apple have to do with it? We all know about their success in iPods, iPads, iPhones and all other “i”s that came along over the past years.

What people have forgotten is the greatest creation of all: that is the “Woman”. She comes in different versions with an intuitive and self-upgrading operating system. She starts off with the basic and simple version “iKnow”, then climbs up the ladder to version “iNeed” until she reaches the highest of all levels “iWant”. All three levels are backward compatible. She can easily switch between them with no lag time.

I blame apple for this, and at this point I ask them to declare what updates of “Woman” they have in store for us.

P.S:
There was one version of “Man” and it hasn’t been updated since. It’s a one-time application that runs under extreme pressure; it’s a very effective application and eventually affects the lives of men running it. It’s the “iDo” app, works best in wedding ceremonies.
