Having a Baby… Juice Juice Juice


It has been such a long time since I last posted on the blog.

I gave birth to a healthy handsome baby boy. Throughout my pregnancy I juiced every single day. Green juice, apple juice, carrot juice, and different combinations of juice all ran through my veins and replenished my system and that of my baby. He was born and could hold his head up and I still do believe that his strength is directly related to the juices I have been consuming. I focused on fetal development and requirements and juiced ingredients that would help boost my health and that of my growing baby in me.

I want to share some juice recipes that would help those who are planning to get pregnant, and those who are already going through their journey at being pregnant.

To Those Who are Trying to Get Pregnant

First thing I want to share with you is a detox. It took me a while to get pregnant and I read somewhere that a cleanse can help reboot my system. I did a four day juice fast (read my blog post about it here). A month after the cleanse and healthy eating I got pregnant. All you got to do is try to eliminate sugars in your diet. Eat healthy food and if you have the will to go vegan for a few weeks then go ahead and do that. As for me all I did is I went on a juice fast for 4 days. I eliminated caffeine from my system and all sugars. I ate a lot of greens. I exercised daily and drank lots of water and fluid.

Here are a few juice recipes that help with fertility.

During the first trimester, the embryo becomes a fetus with all organs fully formed. During the second trimester you are most energetic and happily pregnant. Now that all the major organs and systems have formed in the fetus, the following six months will be spent growing. This means that you require a lot of vitamins and nutrients to help the growing fetus in you. I drank a lot of grapefruit and green juice during that time. Here are a few recipes:

In the third trimester heartburn kicks in. More growth happening to the fetus and lungs are developing and maturing. I started to feel heavy and easily tired during the last few weeks. To keep your energy up and to help you through what is to become of your life try these healthy recipes.

My Four Day “Juice Fast”


I previously posted a blog on “The Gerson Therapy” where I have mentioned that I watched five documnetaries about health and its relation to food.

I decided to try the “juice fast” that was mentioned in the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead directed by Joe Cross. It was inspiring how the two characters lost weight and got their health back with the “juice fast”. They fasted for 60 days which I will not undergo. I decided on only 4 days. I knew that the first day was going to be hard, like any other hard thing you go through when you face change. But I learned that I should embrace change and go with it because through the journey you learn new things about yourself. You grow in the process without even realizing.

I personally want to detox my body and give it a break from all the food that I am consuming. I am an avid gym-aholic. I exercise daily and try to eat healthy. I did an extensive research for juice recipes, vitamins and minerals present in vegetables and fruits. I wanted to make sure that I got my daily requirements of all the nutrients required for staying safe. Here are my juice fast logs for the four days.

Day 1:

I drank a couple of cups of water and an apple-carrot juice in the morning before heading to work. A few hours passed and I started to get this huge headache from the caffeine withdrawal. I got myself a cup of green tea and continued with my work. At noon I drank a cup of already prepared carrot juice and enjoyed its quenching and soothing taste on my palate. Time passed quickly at work and it was time to head back home. I got home and prepared my green detoxifying juice of the day: 1/2 beet, 6 leaves of kale, half a lemon, thumb of ginger, an apple and a cucumber. This juice just filled my body with energy as soon as I had it. Might as well use this energy, I headed to the gym and ran for 30 minutes. After a soothing shower my sweet tooth was starting to nag on me so I prepared a pear and apple juice. I did not know that it was this sweet and satisfying. I enjoyed the rest of my night with my husband watching TV and headed to sleep feeling like I have triumphed in an olympic competition and earned the gold medal and took it home with me.

Day 2:

I did not have work today. Did an orange and clementine juice in the morning. Such a rush of energy and sweetness. The foam in the juice and the satisfying  aroma and taste where exhilarating. It was as if I had orange juice for the very first time. I kept myself busy throughout the day. Had a blackberry and grape juice as a snack. Got my mean green juice and apple-carrot-celery juice for lunch. I wanted to get some beta-carotene into my system so I prepared a sweet potato-celery-apple and ginger juice. Some of the many effects of beta-carotene are: prevent headaches, heartburn, high blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis, and slows down the ageing process.  For dinner I fixed myself a grape-clementine-pear juice. I felt clean inside out. The energy level  I had was impressive. Looked forward to day 3.

Day 3:

Woke up excited to have the orange and clementine juice of the morning. I felt like a kid waiting for their snack their mom promised to give after having eaten all their food. It tasted so good and succulent that I still am in awe with how my taste buds are responding. I had my friend over and I offered her a carrot juice. I followed my morning juice with a clementine, grapes, apple, and sweet potato juice. I did some toning exercises in the afternoon and quenched my thirst with a cup of carrot-celery juice. At night my husband and I went to the movies, but before heading off I prepared my mean green juice for the night. I felt that things are becoming easier. Lost 2 kg already. Day 4 is next to test my will to carry on.

Day 4: 

Got a grapefruit juice in the morning and started off my Saturday with chores and a visit to the farmers market for fresh produce. Got my noon carrot-celery juice. In the evening I prepared a green juice. Got hungry at night so I fixed myself an orange-grape juice and headed off to bed feeling clean inside out.

All in all I would definitely repeat this “juice fast” from time to time. I felt that my body took the break it needed. The weight that I have lost (2+kg) got my spirit up and my stamina to continue a healthy approach to living. I tested my will and my perseverance. Through the four days I realized how lucky and unappreciative we might tend to be for what we have in life. We take things for granted and assume it is our right to have what we have. I recommend the “juice fast” because it puts you back on the ground, it opens your spiritual wings and shows you that you should eat to live and not live to eat. You should appreciate what you have and give thanks.

The Gerson Therapy – The Body’s Healing Power


I love watching documentaries. They open your eyes to new ideas and concepts to explore.

One thing I have stumbled across is ‘The Gerson Therapy’. It was referenced in a few documentaries* I watched and I was mesmerized with the concept and remedy.

I am not going to go through a historical anecdote of the therapy and all that. I am going to discuss the therapy itself.

If you suffer from any kind of cancer, chronic degenerative diseases or illness, be it the common cold to the most deadly and untreatable of all diseases, ‘The Gerson Therapy’ seems to be able to fight it all and actually CURE and HEAL you and not the symptoms.

I enjoy visualizing ‘the Gerson therapy’ as a comic superhero like no other. She would be invincible and ready to save the day all the time 24/7. Why she? Because the therapy is so holistic and derived from Mother Nature that it is no doubt a she healer. “The She Healer” would be her name 🙂

Anyway to get back on track…. The Gerson Therapy believes that the body has an amazing ability to heal itself. The body is normally organized in order to heal. If you cut or burn yourself in the kitchen while preparing food your wounds will eventually heal. If you break your leg, your body will eventually repair the damage and heal. It is our built in “Natural Healing Mechanism” (and you thought that cars only have built in features!). Thus the only thing you have to do when or if you ever get sick is to restore and rebuild the bodies healing mechanism which is being suppressed and damaged by all the waste, pesticides, preservatives, damaged and processed foods, and additives that are in the poisonous food we are consuming. So, all you have to do is the following (note: therapy is modified depending on the illness you suffer from. I am not an expert on the subject so if you are sick please do your own research, check out the institute, and follow their recommendations):

I-     Juicing: Fresh juices are so helpful and powerful for the body. Fresh organic nutrients are the only thing that the body needs to work on. The human body is not designed to work on pasta, fries and steak which have no vitamins, mineral and nutrition. Even vegetarians who are adding salad dressings and are eating damaged vegetables and fruits that are exposed to pesticides and fungicides are not nourishing their systems but are poisoning it. So the solution to nourish your body is fresh organic produce. In order to provide your cells with fresh living nutrients they can absorb and utilize quickly to keep our defenses going, juices are the key. Removing the fiber and only drinking the juice will allow us to get more nutrients and vitamins in our system. Here are the juices you are to have on daily basis:

  1. One fresh organic orange juice for breakfast (vitamin C)
  2. Green juice: green lettuce, chard, green pepper, red cabbage put together with an apple (which has pectin in it that makes it highly digestible)
  3. Apple and Carrot mix juice: biochemists and doctors found that the acid of the apple that are ground influence the carrots to release minerals. Thus, the combination gives the best release of minerals.
  4. Carrot only Juice: served with liver capsules which produces Vitamin A (good for cancer treatment)

(The therapy prohibits the drinking of water. The juices are served every hour, thus the system is highly hydrated.)

II-     Coffee Enemas: Drinking coffee is prohibited in the Gerson therapy. But coffee used in enema gives the body a totally difference effect. It cleanses the liver and helps it restore its function.

III-     Have full vegetarian meals with fiber in them. Meals consisting of fresh organic vegetables and fruits. Use of flax seed oil is allowed. No Salt to be used. Go crazy with recipes.

IV-     Meditation helps heal and restore balance to our systems.

What about protein?

The biggest strongest land animals are elephants, bulls and gorillas. They are vegetarian. Very often the vegetarian animals are bigger, stronger and healthier than the meat eaters.

This reminds me of a scene from the animated move “Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs” where the tiger chasing a dear looses his breath after a few seconds but the dear keeps running and running.

The vegetarian diet is rich in proteins. The most complete protein is in carrots and carrot juice. If you feed a new born nothing but carrot juice they are perfectly normal and develop healthy. Carrots have almost the same amount of protein as mothers’ milk and it has all the other things that babies need: calcium, magnesium, manganese etc. You also get proteins in potatoes, oatmeal, and in all other vegetables.

The therapy is not an easy one to adopt especially with the lifestyles we have gotten accustomed to. From the daily takeouts to the social events that always include something to nibble on and drink. But at the end of the day health is the most important element of our life. When you are unhealthy you are unable to lead a normal life. You are always sick and tired and sad. We owe it to ourselves to start adopting some healthy choices. Maybe buy a juicer and start trying the juices that are mentioned above. If we see any improvement in our health, maybe we can cut back on animal products, additives and preservatives. Then maybe we can start doing the coffee enemas to help our liver rid itself from all the toxins we are consuming.

It is funny how our priorities are distorted. We spend so much money on our outer appearances (which is not a bad thing at all), but we tend to go cheap when it comes to buying healthy products for our system.

Consider showing off your healthy body and healthy system. Boast about your health and well being. Please read more about the subject. You never know when you may need the therapy or a slap in the face and a wake up call to adopt a healthier lifestyle just to stay alive. Don’t wait until you are in desperate need. Don’t wait until you get sick. Act now.
