Guest Blog: How to balance Work and Life? Being A Workaholic

shutterstock_234650602The modern day is a stressful, complicated place. We are wearing so many proverbial “hats” and are constantly pulled in tons of different directions. We want to focus on our career, but we also want to be good parents. We want to take time to experience life, but we also want to make money and prepare ourselves for retirement. All of these things add up to a lot of stress and a lot of seemingly contradictory wants and needs.

One of the hardest things about modern life is learning how to achieve that elusive work-life balance. Being a workaholic may seem like a fairly innocuous trait, but it can sap you and ultimately leave you wishing you had taken more control over your life when you had the chance. What follows are just a few ways that you can work towards obtaining that elusive balance so many of us are looking for.

Leave Your Work At Work

This is really hard for people to do. For some, they literally take work home with them. They spend their evenings filling out paperwork or catching up on correspondence. For others, even when they leave the office, they are still thinking about whatever it is that they were working on. What this ultimately means is that  you never stop working. As difficult as it is, you have to be able to leave the “work you” at the office and not bring it home with you.

Take Time for You

This is probably the most crucial element of obtaining a work-life balance. You have to be able to cultivate elements of your personality and interest beyond work. You have to find ways to de-stress and to leave work, well, at work. For those of us who have spent our entire adult lives so career focused, changing that aspect of ourselves is not easy, but it is worth it. Too many people regret, at the end of their life, that they did not work harder to cultivate themselves.

Do not just let your vacation time pile up unused, you are given it for a reason. Vacation is the reward you give yourself for being a “good adult” and keeping up with your responsibilities. Hobbies are a great way to keep your mind and body active when you aren’t at work. Nobody wants to be “hollow” or “one-sided,” but this is exactly what a workaholic is.

Whether it is a physical activity, you join a club, you start meditating, you paint, travel, whatever – these activities will not only help reduce your stress, they give your life meaning beyond going to work each and every day. These are things that you can do with your friends and family, or as a means to meet new people, bringing greater intimacy and companionship into your life as well.

Delegate

This is something that many of us could do a lot more of. One of the stressful things about modern life is that we have simply added more to our to-do list. Mothers who work are still just that, mothers, which means their job doesn’t end when they leave work at the end of the day. This is why it is important to delegate tasks when you can. Giving the children a list of weekly chores not only instills in them an understanding of work ethic and productive activity, it also means that you do not have to do those things.

Split the chores up between the whole family and suddenly everyone has more time, without sacrificing the cleanliness of the home or at the expense of necessary errands. In the end, delegating is good for the whole family. It teaches children responsibility and allows a little bit of extra time for the parents.

Modern life isn’t going to slow down to wait for any of us to catch up, no matter how much we wish it would. We are tasked with trying to live two, three, or more different lives in one lifetime. We are mothers, fathers, managers, scientists, artists, fixers, etc. This can make the modern day world incredibly stressful for people and often, they get a singular focus and become obsessed or insanely focused on just that one aspect of their lives.

For many people, that is work. Work becomes all-encompassing and it consumes us. It does this at the expense of our families, our friends, our hobbies, and the rest of our personality. Finding a good work-life balance is difficult, but it is certainly not impossible. Simple things like leaving your work at work, delegating chores, making time for hobbies or other non-work activities, can make a huge difference in the quality of your life. You will find that you have more time for experience, for companionship, and you feel all-around less stressed out all the time.

My Transformation (Body, Weight and All)… Let Me Help You

So it has officially been a year since I gave birth to my second son.

I have returned to the gym as soon as my six week postpartum was cleared. Yet, due to personal procrastination and the use of breastfeeding as alibi, I did not couple my workouts with good nutrition. I was a vacuum cleaner bound to have a spotless surrounding and a full belly 🙂

As soon as the end of 2015 came close I took it upon myself to set a healthy eating goal for 2016 and stick to it.

In the meantime life also presented me with an online free coach who added me to a group of women on Facebook who cheer each other on and keep themselves and each other accountable through their journey of weight loss and clean eating.

January 1, 2016 arrived and so I woke up in the morning determined to make my first day of the year a success. I juiced one lemon and had it with warm water.

I continued with my usual workout routine at the gym but this time I coupled it with the 21 day fix eating plan. This meant I ate 5 meals a day, using the containers provided to help me with portion control.

I also removed all diary from my diet as it always upsets me. I added Shakeology smoothies that were oh so delicious… I used to have a daily chocolate shakeology smoothie with half a frozen banana and a tablespoon of peanut butter and lots of ice and water… It was divine … It was the greatest part of my day and was so delicious and filling… I was full ALLL day long. I had so much energy.

Then something happened…

12695028_528203447359265_3430771436899252623_oMy scale started to register fewer pounds. I started to feel lighter. My clothes fit better. Could it be?

Could it be that what people used to say was true… :”Abs are made in the kitchen…” “You need to eat clean and couple your workouts with healthy eating or else you will never see results…”

Now I am a month and a half in my new clean lifestyle. I do not feel deprived. I do have my cheat meals here and there. I always start my day with warm lemon water. I still see the pounds melting. I am already down 13 pounds (6kg).

I am so convinced with the BeachBody programs that I signed up as a coach. I get to help others now. I get to help people cheer each other into getting to their goal… and also make money…

We all know the formula to loosing weight but we never get to do it because we need incentives. We need accountability. We need support. Here I am to support you in your journey to a better you.

Life With Diabetes

Life With Diabetes

November is National Diabetes Month.

Dr. Mario Trucillo, from the American Recall Center contacted me and shared a page on their website about Life with Diabetes. The infographic presented was very informative and much needed. I knew some of the information posted, but was also well educated about the ways people with diabetes can manage their disease.

Meal planning and exercise are at the top of the infographic. I believe this is a vital message for all people struggling with the disease. Eating right is doing half the work. Exercise should be an essential part of any persons lifestyle. It helps physically and psychologically.

Please take a minute to read through the infographic below and share it as much as you can. Let us spread the word and raise diabetes awareness 🙂

Juice Recipes for Weight Loss

Who wouldn’t wanna shed a few pounds?

I do not believe in diets… I believe in the approach.

If you adopt a healthy approach and lead a lifestyle full of healthy nutritious food and actively working out you will automatically lose weight and keep it at bay.

Healthy eating and working out are the two essential ingredients for looking and feeling good.

Here are a few juice recipes that will aid in the process of weight loss.

Carrots, Tomato, Broccoli and Cabbage have essential ingredient that will help you digest your food quicker and speed up your metabolism. read more here

Try juicing celery, a beet, spinach, zucchini and cucumber. Your system will clean itself out. You will feel refreshed.

Watermelon and Cantaloupe with a kick of ginger will provide your body with essential nutrients and aid in weight loss. No to mention its refreshing taste on the palate.

Someone should come up with a superhero carrot cartoon character. Carrots are full of so many nutrients and help in preventing and reversing so many diseases. Carrots, Celery, Apple, Spinach and Lemon are to be juiced together and consumed quickly so that all the nutrients would pass through your system and help your cells replenish and stabilize.

Good luck juicing 🙂

The Gerson Therapy – The Body’s Healing Power

I love watching documentaries. They open your eyes to new ideas and concepts to explore.

One thing I have stumbled across is ‘The Gerson Therapy’. It was referenced in a few documentaries* I watched and I was mesmerized with the concept and remedy.

I am not going to go through a historical anecdote of the therapy and all that. I am going to discuss the therapy itself.

If you suffer from any kind of cancer, chronic degenerative diseases or illness, be it the common cold to the most deadly and untreatable of all diseases, ‘The Gerson Therapy’ seems to be able to fight it all and actually CURE and HEAL you and not the symptoms.

I enjoy visualizing ‘the Gerson therapy’ as a comic superhero like no other. She would be invincible and ready to save the day all the time 24/7. Why she? Because the therapy is so holistic and derived from Mother Nature that it is no doubt a she healer. “The She Healer” would be her name 🙂

Anyway to get back on track…. The Gerson Therapy believes that the body has an amazing ability to heal itself. The body is normally organized in order to heal. If you cut or burn yourself in the kitchen while preparing food your wounds will eventually heal. If you break your leg, your body will eventually repair the damage and heal. It is our built in “Natural Healing Mechanism” (and you thought that cars only have built in features!). Thus the only thing you have to do when or if you ever get sick is to restore and rebuild the bodies healing mechanism which is being suppressed and damaged by all the waste, pesticides, preservatives, damaged and processed foods, and additives that are in the poisonous food we are consuming. So, all you have to do is the following (note: therapy is modified depending on the illness you suffer from. I am not an expert on the subject so if you are sick please do your own research, check out the institute, and follow their recommendations):

I-     Juicing: Fresh juices are so helpful and powerful for the body. Fresh organic nutrients are the only thing that the body needs to work on. The human body is not designed to work on pasta, fries and steak which have no vitamins, mineral and nutrition. Even vegetarians who are adding salad dressings and are eating damaged vegetables and fruits that are exposed to pesticides and fungicides are not nourishing their systems but are poisoning it. So the solution to nourish your body is fresh organic produce. In order to provide your cells with fresh living nutrients they can absorb and utilize quickly to keep our defenses going, juices are the key. Removing the fiber and only drinking the juice will allow us to get more nutrients and vitamins in our system. Here are the juices you are to have on daily basis:

  1. One fresh organic orange juice for breakfast (vitamin C)
  2. Green juice: green lettuce, chard, green pepper, red cabbage put together with an apple (which has pectin in it that makes it highly digestible)
  3. Apple and Carrot mix juice: biochemists and doctors found that the acid of the apple that are ground influence the carrots to release minerals. Thus, the combination gives the best release of minerals.
  4. Carrot only Juice: served with liver capsules which produces Vitamin A (good for cancer treatment)

(The therapy prohibits the drinking of water. The juices are served every hour, thus the system is highly hydrated.)

II-     Coffee Enemas: Drinking coffee is prohibited in the Gerson therapy. But coffee used in enema gives the body a totally difference effect. It cleanses the liver and helps it restore its function.

III-     Have full vegetarian meals with fiber in them. Meals consisting of fresh organic vegetables and fruits. Use of flax seed oil is allowed. No Salt to be used. Go crazy with recipes.

IV-     Meditation helps heal and restore balance to our systems.

What about protein?

The biggest strongest land animals are elephants, bulls and gorillas. They are vegetarian. Very often the vegetarian animals are bigger, stronger and healthier than the meat eaters.

This reminds me of a scene from the animated move “Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs” where the tiger chasing a dear looses his breath after a few seconds but the dear keeps running and running.

The vegetarian diet is rich in proteins. The most complete protein is in carrots and carrot juice. If you feed a new born nothing but carrot juice they are perfectly normal and develop healthy. Carrots have almost the same amount of protein as mothers’ milk and it has all the other things that babies need: calcium, magnesium, manganese etc. You also get proteins in potatoes, oatmeal, and in all other vegetables.

The therapy is not an easy one to adopt especially with the lifestyles we have gotten accustomed to. From the daily takeouts to the social events that always include something to nibble on and drink. But at the end of the day health is the most important element of our life. When you are unhealthy you are unable to lead a normal life. You are always sick and tired and sad. We owe it to ourselves to start adopting some healthy choices. Maybe buy a juicer and start trying the juices that are mentioned above. If we see any improvement in our health, maybe we can cut back on animal products, additives and preservatives. Then maybe we can start doing the coffee enemas to help our liver rid itself from all the toxins we are consuming.

It is funny how our priorities are distorted. We spend so much money on our outer appearances (which is not a bad thing at all), but we tend to go cheap when it comes to buying healthy products for our system.

Consider showing off your healthy body and healthy system. Boast about your health and well being. Please read more about the subject. You never know when you may need the therapy or a slap in the face and a wake up call to adopt a healthier lifestyle just to stay alive. Don’t wait until you are in desperate need. Don’t wait until you get sick. Act now.

Take care of yourself. You have the potential to cure yourself.

“Chemotherapy does not restore the body’s ability to heal. It poisons it further. It weakens the immune system”

“Nature has set it all up… it is alright”

“The only thing the public thinks of when it thinks of proteins is animal proteins. But the human body is not designed from animal proteins. It cannot handle it correctly. It cannot break it down to the end product and lodge it correctly.”

Jay Kordich:
